Teman-teman pasti sudah tahu dong alternatif dari Yahoo Messenger yang biasa digunakan di Sistem Operasi GNU/Linux ? Yups.. nama Pidgin (yang dulu bernama Gaim ini) pasti sudah tidak asing di telinga teman-teman. Nah sekarang apa jadinya jika suatu ketika kita ingin chatting dengan teman kantor, tapi orangnya tidak bisa online karena alasan-nya “Waduh kalau saya online pakai Pidgin, laptop saya jadi lemot ” (Maklum teman saya ini tiap harinya ngebuka NetBeans, Firefox dan OpenOffice untuk alat perang dikantor dan sayangnya memori laptop-nya cuma 1 GB ajah ) Nah gara-gara alasan inilah akhirnya saya coba-coba mencari aplikasi chatting yang bisa jalan di terminal atau text mode, nah untungnya packages Pidgin untuk Slackware saya sudah menyertakan aplikasi bernama Finch untuk keperluan chatting melalui terminal atau text mode ini. Mungkin informasi ini sudah basi banget yah untuk teman-teman yang sudah tahu, tapi bagi saya ini merupakan hal baru dan saya posting ini untuk memberitahu teman kantor saya bahwa ternyata ada loh aplikasi chatting yang jalan di text mode (Setidak-nya agar besok-besok lagi, saya tidak mendapat jawaban “laptop saya lemot kalau menjalankan pidgin” )

Buat teman-teman yang bingung apa sih sebenarnya Finch itu ? Ini adalah deskripsi singkat dari halaman manual Finch yang isinya kurang lebih sebagai berikut :

finch is a console-based modular messaging client based on libpurple which is capable of connecting to AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, XMPP, ICQ, IRC, SILC,Novell GroupWise, Lotus Sametime, Zephyr, Gadu-Gadu, and QQ all at once. It has many common features found in other clients, as well as many unique features. Finch is not endorsed by or affiliated with America Online, ICQ, Microsoft, or Yahoo.

Nah bagaimana sudah paham kan ? sekarang mari kita coba dengan mengetikkan perintah finch di terminal dan harusnya teman-teman mendapatkan tampilan seperti gambar dibawah ini :

Nah bagaimana teman-teman ? Tertarik bergabung ? Yuuk sharing-sharing yuuuuk, diskusi bareng-bareng bagaimana sih mengatur sebuah proyek di “Jalan Yang Benar” Omong-omong, beberapa thread terakhir lumayan bagus-bagus loh isinya

Sistem Operasi Sun Solaris 10 yang terkenal dengan kelas Enterprise Server dan sebelum-nya dapat kita download secara gratis (bebas) tanpa support hanya dengan mengirimkan alamat email yang valid, sekarang sudah berganti lisensi menjadi trial 90 hari. Buat teman-teman yang ingin bermain-main dengan Sistem Operasi Solaris 10, mungkin sekarang sedikit menjadi sedikit kesulitan untuk mendapatkan Sistem Operasi Solaris 10 (kalau mau ya tetap bisa menggunakan, tapi hanya trial saja iks..iks… ) dengan adanya perubahan lisensi yang terjadi saat ini. Berita ini secara tidak sengaja saya ketahui ketika membaca posting blog dari Mitchell Pronsc yang terdapat di situs http://java.dzone.com dengan judul Daily Dose – Solaris 10 License Change , menurut teman-teman sendiri bagaimana respon teman-teman dengan adanya perubahan ini ?

Solaris 10 Download Customers
Obtaining an Entitlement Document is simple. On the Solaris 10 Get It page, select the platform and format you desire from the drop-down menus, and then click the Download Solaris 10 button. When you arrive at the Sun Download Center, either sign in or register, ensuring that a valid e-mail address is part of your Sun Download Center account to receive the Entitlement Document. Fill out the Solaris download survey, specifying the number of systems on which you are installing the software. Once you have completed the survey, you will be redirected to the Solaris 10 download page for downloading, and your Entitlement Document will be sent to your registered e-mail address. Please remember, your right to use Solaris acquired as a download is limited to a trial of 90 days, unless you acquire a service contract for the downloaded Software.

Solaris 10 Registration Process for Non-Download Customers
If you obtained Solaris 10 by means other than a download or are installing Solaris 10 on systems that have not yet been registered, you must still register to receive an Entitlement Document that gives you the right to use the software past the 90-day evaluation period and for commercial purposes. Follow the same process described above for download customers. After completing the download survey, you will be redirected to the Solaris 10 download page for downloading. Simply forego downloading; your Entitlement Document will be sent to your registered e-mail address.
